Why Coco might not have surfaced something

Coco's job is to show you the few things that need you, which means it deliberately leaves a lot out. Most of the time, an email that did not appear was left out on purpose. Here are the usual reasons, roughly in order of likelihood.

Coco judged it low-priority

The brief leads with what needs you and sets aside what does not. Receipts, notifications, marketing, and routine FYIs are often summarized or skipped rather than surfaced as their own item. If something you care about keeps getting filtered down, keep opening and acting on it — Coco learns from what you engage with, and the ordering sharpens over time.

It fell outside the read window

Coco reads a recent window of mail, not your entire archive. An email from a while back, or one that arrived after the last sync ran, may simply not be in the set Coco looked at yet. The next sync widens the picture.

It is part of a topic, not its own line

Coco collapses related messages into a single topic. An email you are hunting for may be folded into a topic item rather than listed separately — which is the point, but it can look "missing" if you expected a standalone entry. Open the topic and the underlying messages are there.

The sender is not yet trusted

Some of Coco's deeper reading — like pulling a date out of an attached flyer or PDF — only runs for senders you already trust. A first-time sender's attachment may not be parsed the same way, by design, to avoid acting on content from strangers.

Coco is still learning

In the first 48 hours, Coco is cautious and surfaces less. If you are early in, give it a couple of days.

How to find it now

You do not have to wait for the brief. Ask the chat directly — "show me the email from the school about the trip" — and Coco will pull it from your mail. If the brief seems empty more broadly, see when the brief comes back empty; if syncing seems stuck, see when the daily sync hangs.
