Deleting your account: soft delete, the 30-day window, and hard delete
Deletion happens in two stages: a reversible soft delete, a 30-day grace window, then a permanent hard delete you cannot undo.
Closing your Coco account for good is a deliberate, two-stage process. The design gives you a safety net — a window to change your mind — while still guaranteeing that, in the end, your data is actually gone.
Stage one: soft delete
When you choose to delete your account, Coco performs a soft delete immediately. Your account is deactivated, the daily sync stops, your brief stops generating, and Coco disconnects from your Google account so it can no longer read your mail or calendar. From your point of view, Coco is off.
Your data is not erased yet — it is marked for deletion and held, inaccessible to normal use, during a grace period.
The 30-day window
For 30 days after a soft delete, you can change your mind. Sign back in within that window and you can restore the account: your topics, people, history, and settings come back as they were, and the daily brief resumes. This window exists because account deletion is easy to do in a moment of frustration and hard to undo if it were instant.
Stage two: hard delete
Once the 30 days pass without a restore, Coco performs a hard delete. At that point your data is permanently removed — the briefs, the learned topics and people, the drafts, and the settings. This is irreversible. After a hard delete there is nothing to restore, and support cannot recover it either.
Before you delete
- Export first if you want a copy. Once the hard delete runs, the data is gone. See export your data.
- Cancel billing too, if you have not. Deleting the account does not by itself manage your subscription — see cancel your subscription.
How to start a deletion
Go to Settings → Privacy & data → Delete account and confirm. Coco will tell you the date the hard delete is scheduled for, so you know exactly when the window closes. If you ever need help with this, contact support.
